ESENSEI Challenge: Marking Hair Follicles on Microscopic Images

ESENSEI Challenge is a data mining competition, whereby the task is to design an algorithm for accurate marking of follicle positions on microscopic images.

Overview

In analyses of hair and scalp disorders based on microscopic images, one of the basic parameters are coordinates of the follicular openings – the places, where hair appears on the skin. The purpose of this challenge is to find the most effective and robust algorithm to generate the complete "map" of follicular openings on the image. The potential applications of this “map”, apart from hair disorder diagnosis, include biometry as it has similar properties to fingerprints – is unique for the individual and the location on the scalp.

More details regarding the task and a description of the competition data can be found in Task description section.
